Following the recent news that recurring Glee cast member Chord Overstreet wasn’t not being promoted to regular status there was a bit of an uproar among fans. TV Line spoke with an inside to get some answers over Overstreet’s status and learned Overstreet is in no way fired from the show. Should he choose to return he will have the same status he had during Season 2, recurring. “His option to be a series regular was just not picked up at this time,” says the insider “If Chord wants to appear on Glee, the choice is his. The Glee writers like his Sam character, and have plans to write for him. He and his reps have been told that he is welcome back to Glee, and everyone hopes he will show up on August 10 when filming begins.”
It doesn’t get any clearer than that. If Overstreet wants to be made a regular in the future, he needs to stick with the show and make himself indispensible. It’s not surprising he wasn’t promoted right away. Harry Shum Jr. has been on the show since the first season and is only now being made a regular. Sometimes you have to put the time in to really earn that extra status. With the entire fan outcry, I can’t imagine Overstreet not returning. He’s popular and that alone should motivate him to go back for Season 3. Overstreet’s Sam is only 16 years old, so once the current cast members graduate, they are going to need new regulars and Overstreet will be there waiting.
