I've seen the trailer for this several times, I usually get fed up with them but this one still pulls me in! It comes out next week, I can't wait to see it!

Hmm I saw this last week and didn't really think too much of it. There were some fantastic performances for sure, but the story itself was just a bit much. I felt like the movie had a very "Ya'll don't know what it's like" vibe...it felt kind of preachy, you know?

I also felt like there was a lot of cliche 'black person' talk, and it just felt a bit stereotypical and to be honest, a bit racist.

That being said, I've seen like 8 movies the past couple of weeks so I've been getting pretty judgmental...it just didn't do much for me.

Sapphire--the author of the novel--spent several years teaching in the ghettos of the Bronx and Harlem, so she probably has a pretty good idea of how people living there speak. I don't think it's racist -- a lot of black people living in the ghettos of NYC really are un[der]educated.

This movie killed me, especially Mo'nique's two big scenes (one near the beginning and one near the end). She made me feel so uncomfortable. I really hope she brings home Oscar gold. Gabby gave a great understated performance -- can't believe she's a newcomer! The entire cast was fantastic.

The classroom scenes were another highlight for me -- ROFLMAO @

    "My name is Jo-Ann, heeeey."

"My favorite color is fluorescent beige."

"Can you please use slut in a sentence?" (with that Jamaican accent, OMG )

These scenes provided some much-needed lightheartedness.

    Great, great movie.

I really want to see this because of the award buzz alone...but I really don't think its my kind of movie :-/ It seems kinda like what I thought of 'Revolutionary Road'...fantastic performances but a weak/self-indulgent screenplay.

^ This blows "Revolutionary Road" out of the water. I felt like there was nothing in RR...but this movie has such an impact and true substance.

Ok I'm officially fed up with the trailer. It comes out today here so I'm hoping to see it on Monday.
