Now that they're bona-fida popstars (and by that I mean 'If This Is Love' debuted at number 8 in the UK charts), I thought they deserved a thread of their own.
If This Is Love didn't perform as well as I thought (I was hoping for a top-5 debut and a few weeks in the Top 10) but I guess for a kick off single for a pop band with no gimmick behind them, so to speak, they've done well. The marketing continues to surprise me - the girls regularly post on the official forum (and by regularly I mean if you head over there now you're likely to have a conversation with one of them), keep video journals (which go as far as taking tours of their bedrooms), and are on a constant radio tour (I thought people stopped doing that 10 years ago?). They seem to want to create a strong bond between the band and the fans, and as I mentioned earlier, this whole thing reeks of Smash Hits 1999.
ANYWAY!!! Their next single is called Up and it is fucking mind-blowing. I can see why they kept it as a second single - If This Is Love to drum up some hype and then Up to really secure the deal. Apparently the record company has high hopes for the band and aren't going to be giving up on them any time soon.
Here's a performance of 'Up', the best one I could find. NOTICE THE AMAZING SIRENS GOING OFF WHEN VANESSA (the one in the pink) SINGS 'THIS IS THE FINAL CALL FOR ALL DESTINATIONS'. IF THAT ISN'T THE GREATEST BRIDGE IN A POP SONG ALL YEAR LONG, FRANKLY, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS.
